Sky Arabia focuses on region's medtech
This week, leading health and med-tech companies are showcasing their innovative products on the Leeds City Region exhibition stand, P.D12 at Arab Health, an annual international trade fair in Dubai.
The presence, co-ordinated by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Medilink, includes displays from a range of exciting businesses including scalp-cooling equipment from Paxman, germ control pushpads from SurfaceSkins, award-winning operating theatre lights from Brandon Medical, surgical sealants from Tissuemed, and brain imaging systems from York Instruments. Sky News Arabia visited the stand to film a demonstration of Paxman’s innovative technology (pictured).
To complement the Arab Health presence, the LEP is releasing a series of fun and informal #LetsTalkRealBusiness videos that focus on how to approach the Middle Eastern market. They feature a conversation between Victoria Boldison and Saeeda Ahmed discussing their business experiences of the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and more.
Kersten England Chief Executive of Bradford Council and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) lead Chief Executive for Business, Innovation and Growth said:
“We want to connect local companies with real opportunities to grow their business through selling more overseas. This is why we are going to Arab Health, to promote the products and services this region can offer to the Middle Eastern healthcare market. Our businesses are leading the way in innovating solutions and this trade show is an ideal place to connect international buyers who value British high quality to those products and services.”
Richard Paxman, CEO at Huddersfield-based Paxman said:
“Chemotherapy induced hair loss is consistently ranked in the top five most distressing cancer chemotherapy side effects and we are working hard to ensure that cancer patients have a choice against hair loss. We are delighted to be able to offer scalp cooling to Middle Eastern patients. It’s great to be working the LEP to promote this.”
The healthcare and med-tech sector represents a significant contributor to the economy. A recent report commissioned by the LEP found that exports from the region of medicinal and pharmaceutical products are worth £2.5bn, 25 per cent of total exports from the region. The importance of overseas trade was again highlighted in a report by HMRC. It found in the year to June 2017, the overall value of Yorkshire and Humber trade in goods exported increased significantly by 13 per cent compared with the same period to June 2016.
The Arab Health Exhibition & Congress is taking place from 29th January to the 1st February 2018, at the Dubai Convention and Exhibition Centre, attracting 102,000 healthcare professionals and a presence from over 65 countries
