Selby set for business boost

On 7 July, businesses in the Selby district have a unique opportunity to access expert support and advice, in an event run jointly by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Selby District Council.

Companies will have the opportunity to gain business advice from a number of experts, as part of the LEP’s commitment to offer robust business support and finance to help small and medium sized businesses in Selby to develop and grow.

Support, advice and information

Local businesses are invited to a breakfast briefing, 8am at Selby Civic Centre on 7 July where the LEP will be offering the opportunity to find out about the support, advice and information available, as well as encourage eligible businesses to take the first steps in applying for training grants.

One of the packages of support on offer is the LEP’s skills service, which has already assisted over 600 businesses with training costs through a total investment of over £2 million. Nicki Hudson, Engagement Manager for the LEP skills service will be attending the event to provide Selby businesses with details of the support and funding available through the skills service.

Nicki will be joined by Chris Moore, Selby’s Growth Manager, whose role is to work with businesses in Selby who have plans to grow. Chris is keen to work with Selby businesses planning to develop new products, improve processes, expand or move premises, invest in new staff or machinery and identify and secure financial investment.

New markets, new challenges

Mark Ridgway OBE, LEP Board member and chair of the skills service management board, added: “I hope this event will ensure relevant businesses take advantage of the support and funding available through the skills service. I’ve seen companies use the training grants to expand their sales knowledge, enabling them to tap into new markets or alternatively use it to hone the skills of the senior management in order to bring about huge changes to organisational culture and strategy. Businesses are also using the support and funding to upskill staff so they are able to take on more responsibility, new challenges and higher level roles.

“It really is an excellent opportunity for employers to give their business a boost by making sure staff are equipped with the expertise to work smarter and more efficiently, as well as bringing new skills into the organisation to help them achieve their objectives.

“With grants of between £500 and £50,000 available to businesses with a budget to put towards training, I hope Selby companies take up the opportunity on 7th July to meet the team and start taking the next steps to business growth.”

Selby District Council’s Executive member with responsibility for economic development, Cllr Chris Metcalfe, added, “We’re keen to support events such as this as part of our drive to make the Selby district a great place to do business. The LEP offers targeted support for companies, and I’d like to see more businesses grow as a result of this link up, supporting long-term growth for the district.”

“The Selby district is a great location for business, at the heart of Yorkshire and with easy access to fantastic road and rail links: this is about helping our companies make the most of these opportunities.”
