LEP Chair Roger Marsh OBE welcomes submission of Leeds City Region devolution bid

Devolution could provide the powers and investment to upgrade local transport networks.

The LEP, working with the leaders of the West Yorkshire councils, has been involved in the submission of a devolution bid to government covering the Leeds City Region. LEP Chair Roger Marsh OBE today welcomed the submission:

“For me, devolution has always been about securing all of the tools to achieve our ambitious economic plan - delivering extraordinary growth that benefits everyone in our City Region further and faster. I am pleased, therefore, that today’s bid has gone to government, taking us yet another step forward on our journey to transform the Leeds City Region economy.

“Business and council leaders have been working together successfully across the Leeds City Region geography for many years and we have proved that this type of partnership works in delivering economic growth. Through the devolved funding and decision-making we’ve secured already, we’ve unlocked close to £3 billion of public and private sector investment for our region, offering the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs.

“By playing to our economic strengths, we are best positioned to achieve our ambitions of transformational economic growth and the proposals set out in today’s submission could take us well on the road towards achieving this.”
