Leeds City Region winners named in Great British High Street Awards 2016

Hebden Bridge, in Calderdale, was today crowned Best Small Market Town at the Great British High Street Awards in recognition of its resilience and community spirit in the wake of last year’s Boxing Day floods.

Following record rainfall last December, almost 4,000 homes and businesses were badly damaged by the floods – but communities, businesses and the council worked together to get the town back on its feet and 95 per cent of Market Street shops are now trading again.

Pateley Bridge, in the Harrogate district, was named Best Village following the community’s efforts to fill vacant units on the high street and work to develop new businesses and jobs.
