Ben Rimmington, Leeds City Region LEP Director said:

“I am delighted that the Drax project has been shortlisted by the Government. Leeds City Region has a set of attributes that make it a great place for the development of CCS – including not just the three large scale energy generators but also an advanced supply chain already in place and significant potential for a region wide pipeline to the North Sea.

“So the Drax project can be a trailblazer for the development of a really important CCS cluster that will benefit not just this part of the world but the UK’s wider transition to a low carbon economy.”

Investment in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) will bring significant jobs to the City Region, across a number of sectors. A recent report estimates that building a CCS cluster will increase the area’s economic output by as much as £11billion in foreign investment and create 11,000 jobs.
