Wakefield-based Global Doors benefits from Employment Hub service to hire skilled apprentices

Wakefield-based specialised manufacturer, Global Doors Ltd have positively benefitted from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s (the LEP) Employment Hub talent-matching service to find new employees and hire four apprentices.  

Global Doors Ltd is a small business with big ambitions, growing from two team members and one van to an established business that now employs 30 people with a fleet of vans, a suite of product solutions and brands. Global Doors manufactures and sells made-to-measure wardrobe solutions and interiors to property, trade and independent retailers.  

With support from the Combined Authority and the LEP, the business has benefited from a specialised recruitment service through the Employment Hub in Wakefield to match them with suitable job seekers. The business also received funding from the LEP to support investment in new equipment.  

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leader of Bradford Council said: 

 “As identified in our Future Ready Skills Commission report and as we look to economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now more important than ever that we continue to provide local businesses and individuals with support for their employment needs to ensure everyone can benefit from a more sustainable and inclusive economy.  

“We will continue to provide support through our FutureGoals and Employment Hub initiatives to job seekers to ensure they have access to training, skills and careers support to navigate the current job market.”

Analysis conducted for the Combined Authority shows that under a worst-case scenario, the pandemic could lead to 58,000 job losses in the next year, see local unemployment rate rising to 14%, and wipe £12 billion off the value of the local economy.   

Supporting local businesses to invest in creating job opportunities, apprenticeships, skills, and training will be the key to West Yorkshire’s economic recovery by enabling a more inclusive and sustainable economy fit for the future.
