Insider Media noted Roger’s success in securing the £1 billion Growth Deal with government – the largest deal of its kind in the country – as one of the key highlights of his seven years as chair of the LEP. Since being signed in 2014, the Growth Deal has delivered transformational investment in the Leeds City Region economy, delivering improvements to transport and infrastructure, building new colleges, and supporting skills.
Roger Marsh OBE DL, said: “It’s an honour to be named number one on Yorkshire Business Insider’s Power 100, even more so to be at the top of the list for a second year running.
“There’s a tremendous sense of optimism around Yorkshire and the North, with exciting new developments in Channel 4 setting up its national headquarters and iwoca, one of Europe’s largest FinTechs, also coming to Leeds, and – we hope – a devolution deal for the City Region.
”I’m proud to have played some small part in this, through my career at PwC and latterly as Chair of the LEP, the Piece Hall Trust in Halifax and the NP11 and I’m more committed than ever to my belief that the North is the solution to UK prosperity. We have enormous potential that is yet to be fully realised for the benefit of the people of Yorkshire, the North, and the UK as a whole.”
Yorkshire Business Insider’s Power 100 list also includes Dan Jarvis, mayor of the Sheffield City Region and MP for Barnsley central, and Sinead Rocks, Channel 4's managing director, nations and regions, who is leading the broadcaster’s move to Leeds.
