The Director of the Year awards, held on 4 July at the Principal Hotel in York, honour leaders from the public and private sectors along with entrepreneurs of all ages and backgrounds.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises Roger’s distinguished career and dedication to driving forward investment and development in the north.

Roger has been Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) since 2013 and has led the organisation through a period of significant transformation, including securing the country’s largest ever Local Growth Deal with Government.

Roger also chairs the NP11 (Northern Powerhouse 11), which brings together local enterprise partnership Chairs from across the North to work with the Government to achieve its vision for the Northern Powerhouse.

Roger Marsh OBE, said: “Thank you to the IoD for this wonderful and humbling award. The optimism that now surrounds the North is palpable, and to have played some small part in this – through my career at PwC and latterly as Chair of the LEP and the Piece Hall Trust in Halifax – is reward enough in itself, however being recognised by the IoD through this award is truly a great honour.

"A Lifetime Achievement Award is typically something that’s given at the end of one’s career, however I’m more committed than ever to my belief that the North is the solution to UK prosperity and to doing all that I can to ensure the North’s enormous potential is fully realised for the benefit of the people of the North, and indeed the nation.”

Jon Geldart, chair of IoD Yorkshire and North East, said: “Exceptional businesses are only so because of the exceptional people who create, drive and sustain them. The Director of the Year Awards celebrates these leaders, often unsung and unrecognised.

“At a time when our country remains fractured by dysfunctional politics and politicians it is heartening that British business displays leadership where politics does not.”
