Guidance for businesses seeking a levy transfer

Businesses located in West Yorkshire or York can seek support from the Apprenticeship Levy Support Service via their preferred training provider. Our support is available to levy paying and non-levy paying businesses facing challenges securing funding for an apprenticeship for one of the following reasons:

the business would benefit from 100% of the apprenticeship training costs to be covered
the business is a levy payer which has committed all its own levy funding

Once the training provider has been selected, you can ask the training provider to register the apprenticeships requiring funding on your behalf.

The apprenticeship(s) can be at any level and from any sector but must be an apprenticeship standard not a framework. Your business must be located in West Yorkshire or York to access the service. See our FAQs for more information.

Step 1 - Registering an apprenticeship(s)

The training provider will complete a levy transfer registration form with details of the apprenticeship(s), including level, cost as well as some details about your business, including its name and location.
Please note that registering for a transfer does not guarantee that we will be able to find a match for funding.

Step 2 - Levy transfer introductions: The Levy Support Team will aim to facilitate introductions between training providers and levy businesses, on a first come, first served basis. We will then facilitate an introduction between the levy donor company and the training provider to discuss next steps.

Important: Some levy businesses may stipulate that they will only consider a levy transfer to a business within their sector or particular area. We have no influence over this or its potential impact on facilitating introductions. We can not guarantee a levy transfer will be agreed. Some levy-paying businesses may ask to meet you, to understand more about your business and the apprenticeship(s) which require funding, before making any decisions about a potential levy transfer. Your training provider will let you know if this is the case.

Step 3 - After the levy transfer discussion: If a levy transfer has been agreed, the training provider will contact you to arrange the transfer and the next steps.
