Local and national restrictions business support grants

Restart Grants Scheme

At the beginning of April, the government launched the new £5 billion Restart Grants scheme to be administered by local authorities.
 
Businesses in England in the non-essential retail sector will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000. Businesses in the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym sectors, which are reopening later, will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £18,000. Find out more

Recovery Loan Scheme

The government has launched a new loan scheme to provide further support to protect businesses and jobs.

Businesses, ranging from coffee shops and restaurants to hairdressers and gyms, can now access loans varying in size from £25,000, up to a maximum of £10 million. Loans will include an 80% government guarantee and interest rate cap. Find out more.

What support is available?

Grants are available to support local businesses that:

  • Have had their trade affected by national restrictions (5 November to 2 December 2020), including those that have closed their business and do not pay business rates, and businesses that have not been required to close, but are still severely impacted.
  • Have been impacted by local COVID Alert Level High and/or Local COVID Alert Level Very High restrictions, but not required to close.
  • Were required to close on a national basis since 23 March 2020 - i.e. businesses like nightclubs.

Announced 5 January, one-off top-up grants for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses worth up to £9,000 per property are available to help businesses through to the Spring. A £594 million discretionary fund has also been made available to support other impacted businesses. Find out more

How do I apply?

Local Authorities are responsible for distributing grants from the Government to local businesses. Businesses can apply for grants by completing an online application on the website of their Local Authority. If you are unsure of your Local Authority, please use the tool on the Government website here.
