Leeds City Region builds partnerships with China
The LEP is hosting a business delegation led by the Director of the China Enterprise Association in Britain (CEAB), in association with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to develop bi-lateral trade and investment relationships.
The visit which takes place from 23rd to 24th July, will see, Mr Ning Lin, Director General of the CEAB and Executive Vice Chairman of the CCPIT, lead a delegation of Chinese business leaders who will meet with representatives of the private and public sector from across the City Region. The delegation will be invited to a business briefing and take part in a series of tailored business meetings with firms from across the City Region’s core sectors including manufacturing, financial and professional services, and digital, to explore opportunities for business partnerships.
The two days of activity, which is being delivered in partnership with the Leeds City Region China Business Club, is part of the LEP’s ongoing mission to drive international investment, explore opportunities for trade and learn from the other countries’ successes in sectors which will fuel local economic growth.
LEP Chair Roger Marsh OBE, said:
“I’m delighted to welcome this Chinese delegation of businesses. Through this programme of activity we hope to create a strategic dialogue, exchange knowledge and show the strengths of the UK’s biggest City Region economy outside of London, to businesses looking to grow outside of the capital.
“Having recently met with the Governor of the Guangzhou Development District (GDD), China’s most advanced development zone, I was amazed to hear the similarities between it and Leeds City Region. I’m sure that this visit will provide similar opportunities and offer both our indigenous businesses and those looking to potentially relocate a chance to see the potential for growth available throughout our City Region.
“Visits such as these by international delegations will allow the LEP to showcase Leeds City Region’s global competiveness and therefore drive jobs, growth and productivity across inward investment and trade in the City Region.”
The visit aims to provide attendees from across the City Region and the delegates from the CEAB, including representatives of China Construction Bank, China Travel Service, Agricultural Bank of China, Zhonglun Law Firm and PetroChina International, with information around developing trade, investment and business relations with Leeds City Region and exploring the opportunities and the support that is available here.
Mr Lin, Director General of CCPIT (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade) UK Office, and Executive Vice Chairman of CEAB (Chinese Enterprises Association in Britain) added:
“I’ve been working in the UK for more than two years but this is my first visit to Leeds City Region. Over the last 12 months I have seen a growing awareness of the region as a result of the Leeds City Region China Business Club and I hope this will be the first of many visits and form the beginnings of trade and investment relations between Chinese firms and Leeds City Region.”
Giles Blackburne, Executive Director at China-Britain Business Council concluded:
“Leeds City Region China Business Club is being very forward thinking in seeking engagement with Chinese investors and businesses looking for opportunities outside London. This visit from the CEAB offers the City Region the chance to raise its profile with Chinese investors and showcase the opportunities available in Leeds City Region.”
