Flood defence
With extreme weather events such as flooding more likely to occur more often in the future, it is crucial for us to invest in protecting the people, homes and business in our city region.
We’re working to build and renew West Yorkshire’s infrastructure to ensure that it is fit for the 21st century and will enable transformative growth for the region.
A key part of what we do is building and renewing West Yorkshire’s infrastructure to ensure that it is fit for the 21st century and will enable transformative growth for the region.
Working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, we are now responsible for a programme of around £2 billion of devolved Government investment to boost jobs, growth and transport in the City Region. This includes the £1 billion LEP Growth Deal – the largest such settlement of any local enterprise partnership area in the country – and the £1 billion West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, as well as other local, national and European funding.
This investment, alongside a first-stage devolution deal agreed with Government in March 2015, with the prospect of further devolution in the future, provides us with the tools to deliver growth and jobs at an unprecedented scale and make much more of a difference to the City Region economy.
We are making investments to transform the region’s transport infrastructure, with improved roads, rail and connectivity. We are also investing in housing, urban regeneration and bolstering flood defences to protect homes and businesses. We are also investing in technology to ensure that Leeds City Region is at the forefront of digital skills and a leader in clean energy and low carbon technology.
